It’s Squid Games, Not Hum Saath Saath Hain!

Apparently, people are upset about the ending of Squid Game Season 3. Why? Because it didn’t end with unicorns, redemption, and a group hug. Oh no, it had the audacity to be dark and realistic, and now half the internet is writing fanfiction about what should have happened instead.

Look, I’m all for imagination, but not when it comes with a side of denial.

Since when did we decide that every story needs to end with everyone alive, rich, and emotionally healed?

The whole point is that the system is broken, people are desperate, and capitalism is a villain in a three-piece suit. If you wanted a fairytale ending, maybe don’t watch a show where people die playing marbles.

But no, people want closure. People want fairytale. People want a final scene where the main guy gets justice and starts his Disney happily ever after.

I hate to break it to you, but not everything gets wrapped up in a shiny little bow. Especially not in a show that literally begins with debt, despair, and a man betting on horse races using his mother’s card.

We need to stop expecting art to be our emotional support animal. We need to stop treating every TV show like it owes us emotional support. Not every plot needs to be a therapy session. I hope you realize that not every villain is just “misunderstood” and one hug away from reform.

What’s truly disappointing is that we’ve become so obsessed with happy endings, that reality feels offensive. Sometimes the ending hurts because it’s supposed to!

Anyway, if you’re still crying about the ending, maybe rewatch Barney and Friends. I hear it ends with a song and everyone feeling loved.

Stay delusional if that helps you, but the world doesn’t owe you a happy ending. Not everything is supposed to make you feel better.

PS: If you think Squid Game was “dark”, wait till you Google the real story it was inspired by. Spoiler: The show is legit the picnic version of the real life incidents.

Stay real amigos!
